# Forensic Tools

> MCP tools for decision forensics and receipt lookup

## explain\_denial

Returns the agent-facing decision event plus linked spend request context. Use this to understand why a request was denied or escalated.

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
| :- | :- | :- |
| `decision_id` | string (uuid) | The decision to explain |

### Output

Returns the agent-facing decision event with outcome, reason code/text, risk score, and linked spend request context.

Alignment internals are intentionally stripped on this surface:

* no `alignment_score`
* no `alignment_factors`
* no `policy_snapshot` or `provider_snapshot`
* operator-only `reason_text` suffixes are removed

## get\_receipt

Returns canonical challenge/receipt artifacts plus linked spend request and transaction data.

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
| :- | :- | :- |
| `receipt_id` | string (uuid) | Receipt to look up |
| `transaction_id` | string (uuid) | Transaction to look up |

### Output

Returns the x402 challenge, settlement headers, linked spend request, and transaction rows.

Provide at least one of `receipt_id` or `transaction_id`. If you omit both, AXON returns a structured `VALIDATION_ERROR`.

## list\_decisions

Returns decision summaries with filtering.

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
| :- | :- | :- |
| `outcome` | string | Filter: `approved`, `throttled`, `escalated`, `denied` |
| `host` | string | Filter by origin host |
| `task_id` | string | Filter by task |
| `from` | string | ISO datetime start |
| `to` | string | ISO datetime end |
| `limit` | number | 1..200, default 50 |

### Output

Each row includes `decision_id`, `outcome`, `reason_code`, `reason_text`, and `risk_score`.

### Example Use Cases

* Investigate why a specific request was denied
* Review all escalated decisions in the last hour
* Audit spending patterns for a specific host or task
